JULY 5 IS THE CONSTITUTION AND STATE SYMBOLS DAY OF THE REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA
The 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution was celebrated at the Alexander Spendiaryan National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre on 5 July 2025, the Constitution and State Symbols Day of the Republic of Armenia. The restoration of the Republic of Armenia's independence in 1991 inevitably resulted in the adoption of a new national Constitution, which was realized through a nationwide referendum on 5 July 1995. During the event marking the 30th anniversary of the Constitution, speeches were delivered by Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, President of the Republic of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan, and President of the Constitutional Court Arman Dilanyan. "For 30 of the 34 years since the restoration of Armenian statehood, we have been through together, firmly protected by the bulwark of the Constitution. Let me emphasize that neither the restoration of independence nor the adoption of the Constitution automatically resolved the challenges facing our people and state. Moreover, the restoration of independence and the strengthening of Armenian statehood have, in some respects, given rise to new challenges. However, even in this context, overcoming challenges of any kind and form is directly tied to the Constitution, the practical preservation of the values enshrined therein, and the establishment of a strong democratic state", mentioned Arman Dilanyan, President of the Constitutional Court, during his official address at the solemn event marking the 30th anniversary of the Constitution.
Arman Dilanyan highlighted that "the Constitution provides a unique opportunity to foster a public legal consciousness that rejects injustice and discrimination, remains indifferent neither to the welfare of the state nor to constitutional values, and perceives the rule of law as a stable and immutable reality, inaccessible to any interference - a reality that recognizes no other freedom or equality than that which stems from legal law". According to the President of the Constitutional Court, while the Constitution does not provide direct answers to all our pressing questions or solutions to all problems, it contains the formulas for resolving them and creates equal opportunities for all to shape the image of a free citizen in accordance with their abilities. "Once again, I congratulate all of us, wishing to emphasize that this day is a great opportunity for each of us in the Republic of Armenia to reconsider the significance of the Constitution, sovereign statehood, and civic solidarity. Bringing constitutional values to life is one of the keys to strengthening our Homeland, ensuring its prosperity, and securing the freedom and general well-being of future generations. May God protect our people and our state," concluded Arman Dilanyan, President of the Constitutional Court, in his congratulatory remarks.
The event was attended by representatives of legislative, executive, and judicial bodies, members of the diplomatic corps accredited in the Republic of Armenia, representatives of international organizations, and figures from the fields of education and culture.
