THE CONSTITUTIONAL COURT OF THE REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA AND THE FEDERAL SUPREME COURT OF THE REPUBLIC OF IRAQ SIGNED A MEMORANDUM OF COOPERATION
Within the framework of the official visit of the delegation led by the President of the Federal Supreme Court of the Republic of Iraq, Judge Jassim Muhammad Abboud, which was in Armenia on an official visit on September 7-13, upon the invitation of the President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia, Arman Dilanyan, the first joint workshop of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia and the Federal Supreme Court of the Republic of Iraq was held at the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia on September 12.
During the extended format working discussions of the High Courts of Armenia and Iraq, in particular, issues relating to the structures and features of the activities of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia and the Federal Supreme Court of the Republic of Iraq, as well as the role of the High Courts in the system of public authority, and their relationships with other courts and constitutional institutions were touched upon.
The workshop concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia and the Federal Supreme Court of the Republic of Iraq.
The purpose of the Memorandum is to facilitate the creation of a framework for interaction and cooperation in the legal sphere, the exchange of experience in the field of constitutional justice, the study of the constitutional rights of the two countries and their practical application in the context of resolving disputes in the field of constitutional law, with the aim to promote constitutional justice and guarantee the universally recognized democratic principles, as well as the protection of human and civil rights and freedoms.
Noting the significance of signing the Memorandum as the start of the relationship, the President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia, Arman Dilanyan expressed hope that the provisions of the Memorandum would be implemented in practice and become the key to effective Armenian-Iraqi cooperation in the field of constitutional justice.
Emphasizing the importance of the official visit of the High Court of Iraq to Armenia and expressing gratitude for the invitation, the President of the Federal Supreme Court of the Republic of Iraq, Judge Jassim Muhammad Abboud, in his turn, invited the President and Justices of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia to make a reciprocal official visit to Iraq, expressing confidence that such working meetings would serve as a powerful impetus for the development of relations between the High Courts of the two countries.
Within the framework of the official visit to the Republic of Armenia, the delegation of the Federal Supreme Court of the Republic of Iraq also visited the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, where the guests were familiarized with the holy relics and masterpieces of religious art kept in the museum of the Mother Cathedral. The delegation also visited the repository of ancient manuscripts – the Matenadaran named after Mesrop Mashtots, where the representatives of the High Courts of the two countries were familiarized with Armenian medieval manuscripts and a collection of foreign manuscripts. The guests also visited the monastery complex of Geghard and the pagan temple of Garni.
